'19:00 SUNDOWN' (2018) for accordion, three reed ranks, audio-playback, and video is a project commissioned by Trio Layers and Musica Privata Festival. The piece is written for accordion and reed ranks owned by the musicians, taking into consideration their unique sound qualities, limitations, individual scale range, and fragility.

 

In this piece, I wanted to focus on the sound and its experience; at the present moment - here and now; on what we see and what we hear;

In the process of music making, the accordion was deconstructed, and each of the three reed ranks was studied to understand its unique sound. Then, the recording of the music played on instruments was made, which was later used as a base for the electronic layer in the piece.

The sound may be perceived as fleeting and melancholic. 

 

The essence of 19:00 SUNDOWN is the sound of accordion and reed ranks and the music growing out of the departed soul of the accordion. The experience may recall a fleeting moment of nostalgia, a sound represented in the sundown viewed from afar. 

 

The World Premiere of '19:00 SUNDOWN' took place in November 2018 at the Musica Privata Festival in Lodz, Poland.
